DUCJC 2015 - Day 30

Good afternoon!

I'm a bit late posting today. Hubby decided to drag me to the gym at 8am and then change the graphics card in the computer which has all meant I couldn't post until now.

My penultimate January new start was a second Playful Puss design. I couldn't resist the little kitty going sleepy-bye-byes in the flowerpot! I wonder what mischief he'd caused first??

DUCJC 2015 - Day 29

Good morning!

I started this one at just gone midnight! I couldn't sleep so thought I might as well do something productive. I stitched the clouds before my eyes gave in, then the rest in the evening.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 27

Hello again!

Back to the lovely silver lurex aida today for another wintry Tatty Teddy design. Again, I thought I'd start with the colours to give the fabric a bit of depth, so both teddies have most of their hats. The missing sections require white with Kreinik blending filament but, given the fabric, I'm not sure if I want to add any more sparkle so have left them out for the moment.

Winter Hugs

I notice that DMC now have the license to produce Tatty Teddy. I've looked at some of their releases and have to say that they are not as good as the Anchor ones. The colours are simpler and they don't have the backstitching that give the teddies their furry look. However, they would be much easier (and certainly less frustrating) to stitch!

DUCJC 2015 - Day 26

Good morning all!

First things first..... I'm way behind on reading bogs, leaving comments and replying to mine so please bear with me whilst I try to catch up. Thank you.

I like this chart a lot and was glad I chose it as one of my January starts. It's really delicate to stitch as the whole of the background is in one strand. I didn't get as much done as hoped but it has still been an absolute joy so far.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 25

Hello bloggers!

This is my final Margaret Sherry start for January and accompanies those of days 5 and 15. I've started 8 MSs altogether and apart from Book Worm they've all been mice! It wasn't intentional, but obviously I'm drawn towards her cute mouse designs. Sorry!

For a change I thought I'd work on the circle of flowers first. I didn't get much done but even stitching just two buttercups was enough to satisfy my daily addiction!

Stitch From Stash - January 2015

Hello everybody, especially SFSers!

This is my first month of taking part in SFS. Thank you Mel and co for running it again. I have to say that having a budget has truly kept my purse strings reined in. I actually found myself not buying any stash (charts) because I considered it "unnecessary"! How restrained was that?

Here are the financial details:

JANUARY BUDGET - $25 = £16.05 (at 01/01/2015 exchange rate)
SPENT - £8.75
EARNED - $4.00 = £2.57
CARRIED FORWARD - £9.87

Spending:
* £8.75 on a fat quarter of 32ct Sky Blue Murano evenweave (only because I changed my mind and decided to stitch the projects concerned on eavenweave instead of aida)

Qualifying projects worked on (charts older than 6 months):
* Scarlet Macaw Preening
* Christmas quacker
* dragon of air
* loves me... loves me not
* dragon of Earth
* playful puss 1
* a tatty friend
* dandelion time
* dragon of fire
* flower power
* all aboard the walnut shells
* Christmas wishes
* cuddly feline friends
* choc-a-holic
* dragon of water
* I love butter
* good morning Nelson
* winter hugs
* lickle snooze
* a windy day
* playful puss 2
* little green

Non-qualifying projects worked on (charts purchased within the last 6 months):
* friends for life
* feline groovy
* daisy hugs
* dreaming of dolphins
* April showers
* book worm
* carefree summer
* friends forever
* cookie and cream
* daisy umbrella

Qualifying projects completed:
* Lizzie Kate January flip-it stamp (chart gifted October 2014) = $4

Non-qualifying projects completed:
* none

Is that too much detail for you? Can you tell I'm a bit OCD when it comes to making lists and keeping track of my work? Aren't I sad!

I know I'm going to have to buy some threads next month, so that will eat into my budget, but other than that I hope I can be just as restrained again!

Now I'm off to see how others have done.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 24

Good morning!

Yesterday was the last of the Elemental Dragons, a set which I love and to which I will immediately return once the daily new starts come to an end. As is so often the case at weekends a Top Gear Challenges DVD went on and I had hours of pure uninterrupted stitching in the company of my son.

Lizzie Kate January Flip-It Stamp - finished!

Hello again!

One of my aims for the year to was complete each of these Lizzie Kate stamps during their relevant month. I achieved this in January, working on it for short amounts of time between my Challenge pieces. It was a really fun stitch and I'm now waiting until I can start February's. Here it is with all the relevant details:

January Flip-It Stamp by Lizzie Kate
Stitch Count 47 x 47
Stitched on 16ct Rustic Aida 2 over 1
Started - 1st January 2015
Finished - 24th January 2015
Total Stitching Time - 10 hours 25 minutes

I'm going to make it into a simple ornament edged with red beads but probably not very soon! And I get a small SFS bonus!  :)

DUCJC 2015 - Day 23

Hello friends!

More Margaret Sherry on more Aida with more fractionals!

This one is so me (and probably most of you out there too!) I'm desperately trying to be good with my eating habits but stitching this has given me an appetite - and not a healthy one!!! But isn't the saying true - when all else fails, there's always chocolate!

DUCJC 2015 - Day 22

Good morning fellow bloggers!

I can't say enough how much I enjoy working on this Fabric Flair fabric. It's not too soft or hard, the threads run through it like a dream and the marbled effect is just about right. I've only found one shop in the UK that sells it (sewandso) and it's not cheap at £8.55 for a piece 18" x 19". But it's worth the price I suppose. Lucky Americans!

EDIT - I've now found that celticroseneedlecraft.com in the UK also stock fabric by Fabric Flair, although only in 14 and 16ct Aida. They call it "Cloud Effect" and it is available with or without sparkles and in bigger sized pieces. It doesn't appear to come in quite the same colours as those on the sewandso.co.uk website, who also stock evenweave, so I might give some a try when my SFS budget allows!

DUCJC 2015 - Day 21

Good morning!

Wow! I was overwhelmed with your responses to yesterday's wintry Tatty Ted design. It seems as if you all like him and the fabric. Thank you so much for such wonderful comments!

Day 21 brought another Margaret Sherry design which accompanies my day 6 start of two mice hugging under a daisy. If you remember, I thought that without the backstitching the daisy resembled icing on a cupcake, so with that in mind I tried to create another iced cupcake. I didn't quite manage it but at least with some pink it doesn't look too much like a fried egg!

DUCJC 2015 - Day 20

Good morning all!

Two-thirds of the way through the Challenge and I'm still loving each and every day!

I would like to say another big thank-you to all the wonderful comments you have been leaving. I've not been replying to many recently but you are on my to-do list!

This very cold looking Tatty Ted was very reminiscent of the weather outside whilst I was stitching him. I'm glad he is wrapped up warmly against the elements!

DUCJC 2015 - Day 19

Hello again!

My original intention for this chart was to stitch the sections individually and frame it as a triptych but, as you can see, I changed my mind, partly because the pictures tell a story and partly because it would be cheaper to frame as one piece! I aimed to try to complete the leaf, which I did.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 18

Heather had a good time at Frost Camp, surviving the cold by wearing eight layers on her top half and four on her bottom half! Although she's got waist-length hair, long fingernails and is a vegetarian she's not a girly-girl at all and was proud to have done the more bloody and gory survival skills that made some of the boys squeamish! I won't go into details, but YUK! Girl power!

Back tomorrow with another Margaret Sherry.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 17

Hello All!

I woke up this morning to the harshest frost of the winter and a tiny flurry of snow. Pity anybody who's out in this weather camping - like my daughter! Well, her camp is called "Frost Camp" so if it was warm it would kind of defeat the object!!

These dragon charts are really addictive and my plan of sending the boys out for the day sort of worked in that they stayed indoors but left me alone to stitch for quite a long time. I made a lot of progress and for once thought I would not leave all the backstitching until last!

DUCJC 2015 - Day 16

Me again!

So here some of us are, continuing the Challenge into the second half of January. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun!

Once again I would like to thank all of you who read or comment on my postings. I really enjoy what I do and I'm glad you enjoy following!

For this project, and a bit of variety, I decided to stitch the background first. It made a nice change from stitching heads, something which I have been doing quite a lot recently! Strange how the blue section looks like an owl!

DUCJC 2015 - Day 13

Morning!

Today was my first Tatty Ted design. At the moment, and without any backstitching, it looks like a big splodge of greys, although you can at least make out the shape of the head. The Anchor to DMC colour conversion has one of the greys looking a bit green but I won't know for certain until I see it in proper daylight. If I'm not happy I may frog that colour. I've got some bigger Tatty Teds lined up so need to be happy with the colours before I start them.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 12

Hello dear things!

I couldn't resist the allure of this playful little kitten, the first in a set of four, two of which I am starting for the Challenge. The charts contain only full stitches so have that slightly "messy" feel where partial stitches overlap the backstitching. I could have adjusted for fractionals but I actually quite like the messy look; it somehow makes the kitten seem more mischievous!

I would normally stitch from the top but, for a change, fancied stitching the watering can first then working around it. Luckily I had enough time to finish the pinks, which was my aim for the day.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 11

Good morning!

Day 11, just over one third of the way through and I am still loving starting a new project everyday! I thought it would get boring and frustrating but so far... so good!

Thank you again for all of the comments you are leaving. They are all read and really appreciated, especially those along the lines of "I'd like to stitch that too". It's nice to know I might be providing inspiration (and depleted bank balances!) to fellow stitchers.

On to the new start. This is quite a large chart compared to previous Challenge starts but was just far too cute to ignore. The leaves are 1 over 1 - a weird feeling as I couldn't cut and loop or railroad. The pale blue/green shading on the fabric is very subtle but should look lovely showing through, hopefully mimicking a summer sky (because that's why I bought it!)

Here's day 10's start. I did sit and stitch much more than I should have done, but hubby and the children were amusing themselves so I took advantage!

Dragon of Earth

To begin with I wasn't too keen on the earthy colours, but seeing as he's an Earth Dragon they make perfect sense so are now growing on me. His green scales should be brighter and in Kreinik but I substituted for an earthy DMC. Goodness knows what the red bits are. His finger and toe nails are in the same red so fangs perhaps?

Back tomorrow with a cutie.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 9

Good morning!

Oh dear..... Margaret Sherry on Aida! What was I thinking not buying evenweave for this chart? I can only assume I didn't look closely at the symbols first to see how many fractionals there were i.e. LOADS!

I only managed to stitch the worm (whilst watching Top Gear Burma Special - have you realized yet I really like Top Gear?!) but feel that's quite an achievement for one day. I'm not stitching the background but will probably backstitch the border to give the piece a definitive area.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 8

Hi all!

Today's start was just meant to be.....

I decided a couple of months ago the order in which the Challenge charts would be stitched. So it was ironic that, having got drenched on the school run (mainly thanks to passing motorist and big puddle!) I came home, got changed and settled down to stitch an umbrella! Up to now most of my Challenge stitching has been browns, creams and blues so it was nice to pull out some cheery pinks and reds for a change.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 7

Good morrow gentle folk!

Oh my goodness! This fabric was just about the best I have ever worked on - soft, smooth and with a gorgeous twinkle every time the needle touched it. I was drooling!

This chart is the second largest of my DUCJC projects but will stitch up quickly as there are huge blocks of colour and only a tiny amount of backstitching. Rock on! Some of the colours look a bit weird for a dolphin but they match the fabric perfectly and give the piece that tropical (rather than murky) feel I was hoping for. I won't stitch the fish as I don't think they're necessary. As usual, the photo doesn't quite do the fabric justice.

DUCJC 2015 - Day 6

Back again!

I've only posted 5 challenges so far but I have been receiving some wonderful and encouraging comments. So I wanted to say a big thank-you to everyone who has viewed or commented. Your time and effort is very much appreciated. :)

Following on from yesterday, the day 6 start was another Margaret Sherry cutie mouse-themed design. The sky stitched up really quickly as I only had two colours to contend with and I just couldn't go to bed until I'd finished the daisy (although without the backstitching I think it looks more like the icing on a cupcake!) I'm stitching this one on Aida, which is never good for a Margaret Sherry design, but there aren't too many fractionals so I can cope.
