2014 Finishes

These are the projects I completed during 2014. There aren't that many compared to later years as this is when I was just beginning to get into my cross-stitching stride again.

AUTUMNAL ABSTRACT - 2014/08

Vervaco
Stitch count 226 x 151
Stitched on 16ct Antique White Aida 2 over 1
Started - 12th October 2005
Suspended 25th July 2006 after 52 hours
Restarted - 5th October 2014
Finished - 16th November 2014
Total stitching time - 177 hours 15 minutes

When I started this piece I belonged to a cross stitch club. I had only been there six months when the leader sadly passed away, after which some members became very political with two distinct sides bitching behind each others' backs. I remained neutral but the nastiness, coupled with the post-natal depression I was still suffering from, caused me to leave. That's when I took up Scrapbooking. So this project was put into storage and by the time I picked up my stitching again (7 years later) there were so many new and more interesting designs I wanted to stitch that this remained in its tube. However, once it came out of hiding it flew to the top of my WIP rota and was the sole piece I stitched until it was finished! I really really really enjoyed this project and would not hesitate stitching it again but perhaps in different colours such as blues, purples and lilacs.

STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION - 2014/07

Pixel Power
Stitch count 115 x 89
Stitched on 16ct Navy Aida 2 over 1
Started - 26th August 2014
Finished 09th October 2014
Total stitching time - 25 hours

This was just a silly little project to satisfy the Star Trek fans in our household - mum, dad, daughter and son!

HANG IN THERE - 2014/06

Heaven and Earth Designs - Karen Middleton
Stitch count 150 x 173
Stitched on 16ct hand-dyed Sky Aida 2 over 1 (no background)
Started - 6th May 2013
Finished - 26th August 2014
Total stitching time - 85 hours 30 minutes

I didn't see much point in stitching the background to this design when cloudy Sky Blue Aida could do the job just as well! There are some strange colours in this little kitty (eg garnet and lilac) but as the design came together the colours worked well. The confetti stitching was cumbersome but necessary for the effects. Although I cheated by missing out stitching the background this was, in effect, my first HAED finish!

A TASTE OF TUSCANY - 2014/02,03,04,05

Rico Designs (Cross Stitch Magazine Chart)
Stitch count 56 x 56 each
Stitched on 16ct Light Blue Aida 2 over 1
Started - 8th April 2014
Finished - 14th August 2014
Total stitching time - 85 hours

I am very happy with this piece which I had been intending to stitch for about ten years! It was a nice break from the larger pieces in my WIP pile. The top green mount may seem like a strange choice of colour, with the obvious being blue or white, but the blue distracted from the pictures and the white was too stark. In my opinion, the green draws the eye into each picture whilst also coordinating with the doors and foliage.

BIG EYES KITTY - 2014/01

DMC
Stitch count 96 x 96
Stitched on 16ct Cream Aida 2 over 1
Started - 4th March 2014
Finished - 6th April 2014
Total stitching tours - 51 hours

This was not originally planned for my WIPs but I needed a new start and something that would stitch up fairly quickly. I didn't realise just how quickly! But the lack of confetti stitching (yippee!) and a huge block of background colour (yippee!) helped tremendously. I stuck with this project from beginning to end and never got bored. It was pure enjoyment from the first stitch to the last.

Thanks for looking!
