DUCJC 2016 - End of January Statistics

Good afternoon!

I just can't keep away can I?

One of my recent comments asked how much estimated stitching time I had remaining on my challenge pieces. Bearing in mind that I love statistics, love spreadsheets and love keeping track of my progress, this information was instantly available! I tweaked the data a little, based on how much I'd actually stitched in January, and can now provide the following information:

Estimated time to stitch all 31 pieces - 526 hours
Time spent stitching them in January - 91 hours 50 minutes
Estimated time to complete them all - 434 hours 10 minutes
Which means I've stitched about 17%, as shown by my progress bar at the top right of my blog.

But how about a graphical representation as well?

This bar chart shows how far through each of the 31 new starts I am. It's pretty self explanatory and much better than I expected it to be. I especially like the 100% for 24th January. Hopefully by the end of the year most of them will be standing just as tall!

It's quite sad that I keep so much data but as the saying goes, "little things please little minds!" Maybe I'll show this bar chart again during the year, and then again at the end of December just to show you how I'm doing/have done. It'll be interesting to track my progress (although probably quite boring for most of you!)

And, yes, I do have exactly the same bar charts available for my 2015 challenge pieces and my large projects. So very sad!

I'll be back very soon with a finish. Promise :)

  1. It is not sad at all! Thanks to you I am now keeping track of my stitching time :) Amazing how much time these little crosses can take!

  2. I love it! I'm an engineer turned stay-at-home-mom so I have a lot of metrics on my hobbies too. No bar charts though, so I may have to look at adding that. Thanks for posting. I read somewhere that some people are process crafters, meaning they just love to pick up something and work on it and some are progress/project crafters, meaning they need to know they will finish what they start. I'm definitely in the second tribe.

  3. I love the chart. Also love the little bars showing % completed on your side bar. Seeing your numbers inspires me to keep stitching - Not really sure why the trigger - but I am glad you share the numbers.

  4. Oh wow Rachel!! So much details!! I'm afraid I never keep track of any of that! I'd forget to switch the timer on or some such!

  6. I love it! Maybe it's the inner nerd in me haha. So easy to see exactly what's what. I don't want to keep track of my hours because I don't want anyone to know other than me how lazy I am haha. I just keep track of days on a piece. I wish you tons of luck helping your bar chart grow taller and taller.

  7. I love seeing your data! I don't track time on anything I do but I'm always super interested (aka nosy) about how other people track things! I love the idea of knowing how long something will take... :3

  9. You're such a numbers geek! I think that's a compliment these days. I love all your graphs and charts but personally I'm with Katie - don't want to know how much time I spend stitching!

  10. Think I 'll join in the 'don't want to know club' but it is great to see just how much work goes into different pieces

  11. Wow , you maintain lot of details !! Great!! :) Statistics are always good to track.
I don't keep track and I work in chunks of 15 min, sometimes:( in that also, 5 min. go into threading the needle, opening the chart, finding where I left and frutstrating how little time I have got. I am good at planning but very bad at updating. You are doing great in both :)

  13. I think that's a brilliant idea. Just looking at it you could think "Oh, this one is half done and that one's only a little done, so why don't I pick up this one first, etc." Great idea and I would love to see it again in say June or so? maybe July at the 6 month mark? I would love to have time to do this. It would make me feel so much more organized about my stitching. Maybe there's some way to make time for it.

  14. I really like the bars idea to give an impression about your progress. I am only stitching HEAD designs so it progresses so slowly the overview is not really needed :-)

  15. Why not create some statistics about your stitching when you love doing that? Not sad at all.

  16. I love it! But I think we need a better name for it. How about the Chocolate Finger Chart? It would go well with my pies.
